A GERMAN WHEELLOCK HARQUEBUS WITH RIFLED BARREL, 17TH CENTURY
Wheellock harquebus, 17th-century rifled barrel topped by a dot and rear sight. "B" stamped lock with inner roller and plain flat-bodied hammer. Bassinet cover mounted "Bielle" type. Brass fittings, cut, inlaid, engraved, and chased. The counter plate is decorated with a figure, a deer, and a dog. Finger grip brass trigger guard, engraved and chased with a dog and foliage. Brass butt plate and stock compartment fittings, decorated with stags, dogs and foliage. Long shaft stock with cheekpiece and drawer, partly carved with foliate scrolls, inlaid with a cut and chased mother-of-pearl plate and a horn plate enriched with deer antler scroll inlays. Wooden ramrod. A.B.E. Neufchâtel, circa 1680/1700 (cracking and gluing on the front of the shaft).
