A 1906 SAN FRANCISCO FIRE AMERICAN GORHAM SILVER AND LEATHER DRINKING SET, 13 PIECES AND NEWSPAPER - American drinking set made of silver and brown leather, commemorating someone involved with the great San Francisco earthquake of 1906. The pitcher has a plaque inscribed ”GRB, San Francisco, 1906, C. and F.”. The beakers have silver plaques with initials ”GRB”. Marks: Lion, Anchor and letter G, meaning Gorham Manufacturing Company. The Gorham Manufacturing Company was founded in 1831 in Providence, Rhode Island by Jabez Gorham in partnership with Henry L. Webster, and was one of the largest American manufacturers of sterling and silverplate and a foundry for bronze sculpture. Please make all inquiries before bidding. Condition: Most cups with some craquelure to leather, some minor loss to leather in places, some stitching loose. Silver is in good clean condition with minor signs of age. Newspaper with expected yellowing due to age, some creasing to folds.
