AN EDOUARD DROUOT CHINOISERIE BRONZE, FRANCE, 19TH CENTURY - A large bronze sculpture by Edouard Drouot (1859-1945) titled ”Le Pousse-Pousse” (The Rickshaw), ca 1889. A rickshaw, as depicted in the sculpture, is a two-wheeled passenger vehicle with an adjustable covering, historically common in Asia. The sculpture represents a pulled rickshaw (human-powered), being propelled forward by an Asian man in traditional garb and a conical hat. In the cart is a woman of European heritage with glasses in one hand and a closed umbrella in the other. The front of the base is adorned with a plaque 'Exposition Universelle 1889/Pousse-Pousse', the same exhibition that unveiled the Eiffel Tower. The artist's signature is etched on the perimeter of the base next to the wheel. Please make all inquiries before bidding. All lots are sold ”as-is”, refer to our T&C.
