A PERSIAN MOUNTED NOBILITY INK ON PAPER DRAWING, 18/19 CENTURY - Persian (Iranian) Qajar Dynasty (c. 1789–1925) ink on paper drawing depicting a young nobleman on horseback. The figure's stylized facial features and attire (especially the turban and robe), the decorative saddle and ornamental horse tack suggest that the rider is an important court figure. The rearing horse (levade) was a favored motif in royal portraiture, symbolizing power, control, and nobility. There is a blend of European realism (in shading and anatomy) with Persian stylization, typical of Qajar art influenced by European engraving and portraiture.
