AN ITALIAN OR STYRIAN BATTLE AXE WITH A CONCEALED DAGGER, 16TH CENTURY - A finely crafted European battleaxe with a hidden rondel dagger kept within its hollow metal shaft. The dagger can be released with the push of a button near the top of the hilt. The axe head of a double crescent shape, pierced with a spiked trefoil cutout, bearing also a curved, four-sided beak protruding from the rear. The top of the shaft having a spike finial. The grip chased with double-lined diamond patterning, affixed with two disc shaped guards at top and bottom with chased rims appearing as rope. The pommel being a small spherical knob.
