A EUROPEAN ENGRAVED IRON HALBERD ON FACETED WOODEN SHAFT, 17TH CEN. - A French or Italian halberd of a style most commonly seen in the 17th century, with a very long top spike, a crescent shaped blade, and a pointed beak, with the blade and beak also having engraved, sculptural figures of stylized birds. The head is attached to the faceted wooden shaft via two long, iron langets, near to which is affixed a top-facing hook which could be used to catch and control enemy weapons.
