A FIVE-PIECE SET OF CHAHAR-AINA ARMOR, QAJAR IRAN, 19TH CEN. - Five plates of armor known as 'Chahar-Aina' translating to 'Four Mirrors'. They are made of etched steel, chiseled and inlaid with gold. The set consists of three plates for the chest and the sides of the torso, and two plates for the legs. The plates are decorated with etched cartouches depicting scenes from Shahnameh, bordered by an epigraphic frieze in Kufic script. Qajar Iran, early 19th century.
