A JAPANESE MEIJI PERIOD PATINATED BRONZE PLANTER WITH ELEPHANTS BY GENRYUSAI SEIYA - A superb Japanese planter or jardinier cast in bronze with relief decoration of a herd of elephants in a bare landscape, by the Meiji period master, Genryusai Seiya. Marked on the bottom with an impressed seal mark 'Dai-Nihon Genryusai Seiya Zo' [Made by Genryusai Seiya]. Circa 1900. Note: Genryusai Seiya was a master craftsman in charge of a workshop specializing in export wares of the highest quality. Production included human genre figures, vases, and exotic bronze models of animals, probably influenced by the opening of Tokyo Zoological Gardens in 1882. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
