A RECUMBENT GREYHOUND BRONZE SCULPTURE PIERRE ROBERT CHRISTOPHE (1880–1971) - A large late 19th-century bronze figure of a recumbent greyhound dog attributed to French animalier sculptor Pierre Robert Christophe (1880–1971). Signed ''CHRISTOPHE'' on the rectangular base, and struck with foundry mark 'CIRE PERDUE PARIS.' Raised on a rouge griotte marble plinth. ”Cire-perdue” is a French term that translates to ”lost wax.” It's commonly used to refer to the lost-wax casting process, a method of metal casting in which a molten metal is poured into a mold that has been created by means of a wax model. Note: Pierre Christophe exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français and was active during the Art Deco and interwar periods, though his animal subjects often remained classically inspired rather than overtly stylized.
