A FRENCH GILT REPEATER POCKET WATCH, 19TH CENTURY - A French pocket watch, made in the late 19th to early 20th century, with a JEAN-BAPTISTE BAUTTE-style movement and a French ”plaque or” gold-plated case. Dial & Case: open-face case with hinged front cover, enamel dial with subseconds at 6 o’clock, hands in ornate Louis XV-style, likely gilt brass. The case is marked: ”JBB” inside a lozenge (likely for the case manufacturer), ”Plaque OR / GARANTI SANS METAL”, meaning gold-plated over base metal. Movement: stem-wind, lever-set movement marked: ”Avance / Retard” (French for Fast/Slow regulator), ”Brevet +” (Swiss patent mark) typical layout of a Swiss or French ébauche (blank movement) of the 1880–1920 period, serial number: stamped 315106 on both movement and case back useful for dating and service history (if factory records exist).
