Includes Chartres, Orleans, and Blois. The image includes the historic region of Beauce, one of the most agriculturally productive areas in all of France. The bountiful harvest is referenced by the decorative cartouche in the lower left, which features the goddess of agriculture Ceres, sickle in hand, taking the reins of a dragon powered chariot. In Roman mythology, Ceres would use this vehicle to search for her daughter Proserpina, whose temporary annual imprisonment in the Underworld directly leads to the four seasons.
