JAPANESE WOODBLOCK PRINT TRIPTYCH COURTLEY SCENE, CIRCA 1880–1895 - A Japanese woodblock print triptych is almost certainly by Yōshū Chikanobu (楊洲周延, 1838–1912). Signature appears in the vertical cartouche on the far left panel, in a format typical of Chikanobu. The print depicts a courtly interior scene, possibly referencing a kabuki play or imperial festivity. Right panel: a kabuki-style lion dancer (shishi-mai) with flowing red hair, a classic theatrical element symbolizing strength and purification. Left panel: Military men in Western-influenced Meiji uniforms, likely representing Japan’s modernization. Central and foreground women in colorful kimonos reflect the elegance of the inner court or a harem-like scene. Circa 1880–1895. Dimensions: 14 x 27 in.
