AN EARLY 20TH C. LEON BAKST LITHOGRAPH PRINT, RARE COSTUME DESIGN, FRAMED - A rare, high-quality lithograph of one of the elaborate costume designs of famed Russian artist Leon Bakst (1866-1924). The costume appears as the clothing of an 18th century noblewoman, with many layers of bright red and green fabric with fur lining and lace, and a large wig with similarly colored plumage. There is writing in French which reads 'Acte I, 6 Dames de la Cour' as well as some other text near the left hand of the lady. Leon Bakst was a prolific costume and set designer known most for his work with the famous Ballets Russes, of which this is an example. He created designs for some of their most well-known ballets, including Cléopâtre (1909), Le Spectre de la Rose (1911), and Daphnis et Chloé (1912), among many others.
