1775 HISTOIRE DE MAURICE COMTE DE SAXE, WAR OF AUSTRIAN SUCCESSION, 2 VOLS. - A 1775 edition of 'Histoire de Maurice Comte de Saxe', a history and biography of the eponymous Maurice (1696-1750), Count of Saxony, Marshal General of France and hero of the War of the Austrian Succession. He was the son of Augustus II the Strong, King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania and had a long and illustrious military career, serving across Europe in many of the most famous wars of the age. First, he fought for the Holy Roman Empire during the War of the Spanish Succession, then under Tsar Peter I the Great of Russia against the Swedes in the Great Northern War, and then against the Ottomans. He was chosen to lead the French contingent of the last Jacobite Rebellion in Scotland alongside Bonnie Prince Charlie, but the destruction of his fleet in a storm prevented him. This leather-bound and brightly gilt French language edition was collected by Jean Baptiste Espagnac and published in 1775 by Saillant & Nyon in Paris, France during the reign of King Louis XVI.
