A GERMAN PAINTED PORCELAIN VENETIAN STYLE BOX, 19TH CEN. - A German porcelain hinged box painted with green and purple borders with gilt scrollwork overlays throughout, each side of the box having purple transferware scenes of putti at play. The curvy hinge of gilt-bronze with chased and molded foliate decoration. This decorative chest reflects the influence of 18th-century Meissen and Sèvres prototypes, executed in the 19th century for the Continental decorative market. Its combination of puce transfer-printed decoration, hand-painted polychrome interior, and rich gilding is typical of German and Bohemian porcelain workshops emulating Meissen during this period.
