A RUSSIAN (SOVIET) PORCELAIN FIGURE OF TAMARA KARSAVINA IN THE BALLET 'THE FIREBIRD' - A fine porcelain figurine portraying the celebrated Russian ballerina Tamara Karsavina in her iconic role as the Firebird from Igor Stravinsky’s ballet The Firebird (Жар-птица). The figure is shown standing gracefully on tiptoe, with arms crossed at the chest and head turned upward, evoking the dramatic and expressive pose characteristic of her performance. She wears an elaborately decorated stage costume with vivid red, orange, blue, and gold accents, modeled after traditional Russian folk motifs and stylized peacock feathers, complete with a headscarf and delicate ballet slippers. The figure is set on a pale, rocky base, suggesting a stage or forest floor, and the surface is carefully modeled and painted to highlight the texture of the costume and delicate features of the dancer. Tamara Karsavina (1885–1978) was one of the great ballerinas of the Ballets Russes under Sergei Diaghilev and was the original performer of the Firebird in the 1910 premiere of Stravinsky’s ballet in Paris. Her portrayal became legendary, influencing costume and performance art across Europe.
