A CARVED HARDSTONE FIGURE OF A RUSSIAN MERCHANT WITH SAMOVAR, 20TH CENTURY - A RUSSIAN HARDSTONE FIGURE OF A MERCHANT WITH SAMOVAR, 20TH CENTURY. Finely carved from various hardstones, the standing bearded merchant is depicted wearing a black cap, red tunic, white apron, and polished boots, a string of baranki (bagels) slung across his shoulders. He holds a gilt-metal samovar with a porcelain teapot at his chest. The figure is richly detailed with naturalistic use of different stones, including agate, chalcedony, onyx, and lapis for the sleeves and accessories. Raised on a circular onyx and marble base.
