AN 800 SILVER ENGRAVED VANITY CASE WITH COSMETIC FITTINGS, CLINIQUE, MID-20TH CENTURY - AN 800 SILVER VANITY CASE WITH COSMETIC FITTINGS, CLINIQUE. Of rectangular form with hinged cover, the exterior finely engraved with dense foliate and floral scrolls, several flowers set with small cabochon red stones, the sides similarly engraved. The thumbpiece clasp cast in the form of a stylized bow, likewise mounted with red cabochons. The interior fitted with a mirror to the lid, a powder compartment with engraved cover and original puff stamped ”C” for Clinique, a matching engraved lipstick tube, and additional compartments for small accessories. Interior surfaces with gilded finish. Marks: Struck with ”800” silver standard and an unidentified maker’s mark inside the clasp. Notes: luxury vanity or nécessaire cases such as this were fashionable personal accessories during the first half of the 20th century, often carried by women at soirées and travel. Silver exterior clean and bright with one or two smalls spots of surface stain to underside. Interior silver well preserved with some very minor scratching and surface staining consistent with use.
