Hallmarks: kokoshnik, Cyrillic initials 'T.X'; The cylindrical body is finely hand-chased and repoussé with a festive wintry scene featuring Grandfather Frost (Ded Moroz) and his granddaughter Snegurochka (the Snow Maiden), set amid a dense grove of fir trees. The figures are rendered in relief with expressive detail, evoking popular Russian folklore and seasonal celebrations. The forest motif continues around the body with textured bark and stylized branches, creating a fully sculptural surface. The handle is ingeniously formed as a long-beaked heron or crane, its arched neck curving to form the grip, with chased plumage and an engraved dedication inscription running along its length. The interior has the original parcel-gilt wash. This podstakannik is a rare example of Russian silver where folkloric imagery is combined with naturalistic ornament and zoomorphic design. The presence of Ded Moroz and Snegurochka directly ties the piece to traditional Russian New Year and Christmas celebrations, enhancing its cultural significance.
