A LARGE RUSSIAN GILT-SILVER LIDDED TANKARD BY SAZIKOV, 1872 - Barrel-shaped silver tankard with concentric ribbing, hinged domed lid, and a pronounced spout. The entire body is engraved with Old Church Slavonic-style Cyrillic inscriptions and stylized floral and geometric scrolls in the Neo-Russian revival style, popular in the late Imperial period. The lid bears a raised central inscription in block Cyrillic: ”Beer is not a wonder, and mead is not a praise, but around the head. And love is precious”. Hallmarks: 84 Russian silver standard, Moscow city mark, ”Sazikov” maker's mark in Cyrillic, 1872. Weight: 47.9 o., 1357 g. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
