Bidspirit auction | A PIERRE ROBERT CHRISTOPHE BRONZE,
A PIERRE ROBERT CHRISTOPHE BRONZE, RECUMBENT GREYHOUND, LATE 19TH CEN. - An elegant and stylized bronze sculpture of a recumbent greyhound, rendered with a sense of grace and quiet alertness. The dog is positioned in a naturalistic resting pose with front legs extended and head turned gently to one side. The surface is treated with a dark brown patina, and the figure is mounted on a fitted red marble base, typical of high-quality French decorative bronzes of the early 20th century. The form is expressive but refined, with simplified musculature and anatomical emphasis typical of Art Deco leanings, while remaining rooted in naturalism. This blend is a hallmark of Christophe’s sculptural style, which often focused on animal subjects. Foundry: The Siot-Decauville foundry was among the most prestigious art foundries in Paris, active from the late 19th century into the 20th century. Their castings are known for exceptional quality and crisp detail, making them highly collectible. Signature: Incised “CHRISTOPHE” on base. Foundry Mark: Siot-Decauville Foundry, Paris (clearly marked in round cartouche). Please make all inquiries before bidding. All lots are sold ”as-is”, refer to our T&C.
