PAUL TROUBETZKOY (RUSSIAN/ITALIAN, 1866–1938) A BRONZE FIGURE OF A DANCER (MADAME PAVLOVA), 1915 - A dynamic and impressionistically modeled bronze figure of the legendary ballerina Anna Pavlova (1881–1931), depicted mid-step in a softly flowing gown, her arms raised gracefully and head turned in profile. The delicate and fluid treatment of the fabric and form reflects Troubetzkoy’s signature painterly sculptural style, capturing the spirit and motion of the subject rather than photographic precision. Signed and dated on the integral base: Paolo Troubetzkoy with the foundry mark. Troubetzkoy, a friend of Tolstoy and Rodin, created portraits of elite and artistic figures in early 20th-century Europe and America. Pavlova was among his most iconic muses.
