A BRONZE FIGURE OF SOBINOV BY SOUDBININE ”A SINGING BOY”, 1914 - A finely cast patinated bronze titled ”A Singing Boy”, 1914. The figure depicts a celebrated Russian tenor, Leonid Sobinov (1872–1934), in theatrical costume, captured mid-performance in a poised and expressive stance with one arm dramatically outstretched and the other raised. Dressed in a richly detailed Renaissance-style tunic with cinched waist and short hose, the youthful figure stands atop a shaped and tiered base. Serge Soudbinine, a student of Auguste Rodin, was a Russian-born sculptor who worked in both France and Russia. He was known for his portrait sculpture and ceramic work. This bronze is believed to portray Leonid Sobinov, one of the leading Russian operatic tenors of the early 20th century, here idealized as a youthful, romantic performer. Soubinine’s 1914 work reflects the Russian Silver Age, a period rich in artistic experimentation and idealized representations of artistic figures. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
