This map was originally published in 1640 by Ioan Blaeu in the third part ('Italia' of his 'Atlas Novus'; probably previously copied by his father Willem Blaeu from the map book 'Italia' by Italian cartographer Giovanni Nagini. Top left shows a decorated cartouche with two winged creatures with the bodies of lions and the heads of devils next to the crowned city coat of arms of Genoa. Below a beautiful cartouche with the title among the city virgin and two sea creatures. Size 14 3/4 by 20 inches (with margins 18 by 23 1/2 inches) Good condition, minor wear.
