A GERMAN AGATE HILTED HUNTING DAGGER W/ SILVER MOUNTS, C. 1750-1780 - A fine 18th century German hirschfanger hunting dagger with a hilt of carved agate in a beautiful multi-tone purply red color, the section closest to the guard being mounted with silver overlay embossed with floral patterning. The guard itself with S-shaped quillons sculpted to appear as curled leaves. The blade with a single wide fuller to each side, the forte being engraved with hunting motifs and patterns, retaining some gilding, particularly to the standing boar on one side.
