A NAPOLEONIC FRENCH OFFICER'S EPEE SWORD, C. 1812 - A Napoleonic French officer's sword inscribed to the forte with the phrase 'Pour le Salut de Ma Patrie', meaning 'For the Salvation of My Country'. The hilt is of gilt brass, decorated with military motifs to the clamshell guard and pommel. The knucklebowis decorated with foliate patterning. The dark brown wooden grip is checkered and grooved. The triangular blade is kept within a leather scabbard with a long brass chape. France, c. 1812. Please make all inquiries before bidding. All lots are sold ”as-is”, refer to our T&C. Condition: Blade stained and lightly pitted across much of its surface. Gilding along forte worn in places. A small crack towards the forte. Rear quillon of guard snapped off. Scabbard leather with heavy wear. Scabbard split in two near the brass chape.
