AN EARLY 18TH CENTURY AUGUSTUS II KING OF POLAND COURT SWORD - A finely crafted court sword from the reign of Augustus II (1670 - 1733) King of Poland, Grand Duke of Lithuania, and Elector of Saxony. The blade of this sword is engraved on both sides with the text 'Vivat Frid. Augustus Rex Poloniae' meaning 'Long live Friedrich Augustus King of Poland'. The hilt is of gilt-brass, intricately sculpted with mythological and anthropomorphic scenes throughout. The grip wrapped in wire and chain and set between two Turk's head knots.
