AN ITALIAN COURT OR DIPLOMATIC DRESS SWORD, CA. 1860 - A dress or court sword, Italy, circa 1860–1880. Possibly diplomatic corps, civil official, or royal court with the neoclassical with Savoy heraldry. The blade is straight, narrow, and double-edged with fullers. It is decorated with etching. The hilt is gilded brass with high-relief decoration. The crossguard features the arms of the House of Savoy: a cross within a shield under a royal crown, flanked by laurel branches used widely in the Kingdom of Italy. The pommel shaped as a classical helmeted female bust (Minerva/Athena type), common in ceremonial European swords of the period. The grip is constructed of two mother-of-pearl scales. The blade is straight, narrow, and double-edged with fullers. Scabbard is black leather with gilded brass fittings. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
