A PERSIAN SCIMITAR SWORD WITH GILT DAMASCUS STEEL BLADE, 18TH CENT. - A ceremonial Indian scimitar sword, Rajasthan, 18th century. With a superb Damascus steel blade with a yalman toward the tip. The blade is decorated with a complete rich gilding at the forte on both sides. The hilt is of steel, chased and gilded. The quillons are turned down and terminate in mythological creature heads. The original velvet-covered wooden scabbard and gilt steel mounts are decorated similarly to the engraved and chiseled steel hilt. Provenance: Berger Collection.
