A FINE YATAGHAN DATED 1223 A.H. OTTOMAN EMPIRE, BALKANS, 1808-09 - Long Yatagan dated 1223 A.H. Ottoman Empire, Balkans, 1808-09 with a long, curved steel blade, copper-alloy guard finely chased with floral and plant motifs, and eared handle with carved plates. The blade is engraved with Arabic ”naskhi” inscriptions in cartouches surrounded by trefoil motifs. Purple velvet-covered scabbard with openwork gilded copper chape and bouterolle. Condition: Blade retains its original form. Silver inlay has faded but shows no spots of damage. Hilt is tight and blade fits scabbard well. Scabbard covered in original velvet which has one spot of fabric loss.
