Item Overview
Description:
A set of 4 porcelain plates produced by the Samson Ceramics company, apparently masquerading as English armorial plates like those produced for the British East India Company. Each plate is decorated with a large, painted coat of arms at center, two of the plates bearing the arms of the United Kingdom and two others having unique coats of arms which we have not identified. The borders are of an openwork lattice design decorated with gilding, interspersed with openwork floral and foliate motifs. The verso of each plate bears the samson mark.
Paris, France, 19th or early 20th century.
