Item Overview

Description:

A LOT OF THREE JAPANESE BRONZE FIGURES OF PEASANTS, MEIJI PERIOD (LATE 19TH–EARLY 20TH CENTURY)

Comprising three finely cast and patinated bronze figures, each naturalistically modeled as a Japanese peasant in traditional attire, engaged in rural occupations. One depicts a fisherman wearing a woven straw hat and holding a net, another a figure with a staff stepping forward in mid-motion, and the third a man with a tool raised in action. Each figure is richly detailed, with well-articulated facial expressions, textured garments, and finely rendered musculature. Two bear cast signature seals to the underside.

Such figures were produced during the Meiji era for both domestic appreciation and export, often portraying everyday Japanese life in bronze with remarkable realism. The signed examples indicate workshop-level production of quality, possibly for the Yokohama export market.

Please make all inquiries before bidding.

All lots are sold "as-is", refer to our T&C.

Helios Auctions offers in-house shipping. In case we can not accommodate a shipping request, a list of additional shippers will be provided.

Dimensions: H: 8 1/4 in., (21 cm.)

Condition: All three figures retain a dark brown patina with areas of natural wear and light rubbing consistent with age. Minor traces of green oxidation at the bases. Overall, very good condition with no major losses or repairs.
