A SMALL JAPANESE SATSUMA VASE BY CHIKUZAN, MEIJI PERIOD - A SMALL JAPANESE SATSUMA VASE BY CHIKUZAN. Japan, Meiji period (late 19th century). Of square baluster form with short neck, the body finely painted in polychrome enamels and gilt with continuous floral and avian decoration: one side with bamboo and peony, another with lotus and chrysanthemums, and further sides with flowering plants and small birds in flight. The top is decorated with a gilt diaper pattern. Mark: The base with gilt signature 竹山 (Chikuzan) above a red circular seal. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
