FRANZ ZELEZNY (AUSTRIAN, 1866–1932), A CARVED WOOD FIGURE ”REGALIA MEDIA”, EARLY 20TH CENTURY - A robust hand-carved wood sculpture by Franz Zelezny, titled Regalia Media, depicts a bearded figure with a voluminous coat and clasped hands. Executed in a heavily worked rustic style with pronounced carving marks, the piece conveys the expressive and somewhat caricatured aesthetic typical of Zelezny’s oeuvre, who was known for his folkloric and fantastical subjects. The figure stands firmly on an integral base, inscribed ”REGALIA MEDIA” to the front and signed ”F. Zelezny” to the side. Footnote: Franz Zelezny was an Austrian sculptor and woodcarver active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, particularly noted for his idiosyncratic and expressive carvings often linked to the Vienna Secessionist circle. Works such as this, inscribed with philosophical or allegorical titles, reflect his fascination with symbolism and satire. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
