Bidspirit auction | A BLACK FOREST CARVED WOOD
A BLACK FOREST CARVED WOOD VASE STAND WITH ETCHED GLASS VASE - A finely carved Black Forest wood stand, naturalistically modeled with a grouping of game birds, likely pheasants or partridges, surrounded by foliate sprays and textured ground. The dynamic composition features a central bird with wings partially extended, flanked by smaller birds, all executed with meticulous detail characteristic of Black Forest carving. Rising from the center is a cut and etched clear glass trumpet-form vase, its flaring rim designed to hold floral arrangements. The base is circular and relief-carved with leafy ornament. Black Forest carved wood decorative objects were highly prized in the late 19th century for their elaborate naturalism and craftsmanship, particularly those depicting animals, birds, and hunting motifs. Often produced in Switzerland and southern Germany, these works were popular as luxury souvenirs and display pieces in European and American households. The inclusion of an etched glass vase emphasizes both decorative function and sculptural artistry. Please make all inquiries before bidding. All lots are sold ”as-is”, refer to our T&C. The underside shows old screws and wear, consistent with late 19th-century construction.
