A CONTINENTAL BRONZE OF A RECUMBENT DOG, LATE 19TH–EARLY 20TH CENTURY - A finely cast and naturalistically modeled Continental bronze sculpture of a reclining dog, likely a retriever or spaniel type, depicted with detailed fur texture and a relaxed pose. The animal lies with forelegs extended and head slightly turned, conveying alertness and gentleness. The surface shows a warm brown patina with lighter highlights accentuating the flowing coat. The underside is left plain, with expected wear and age patina. Such bronzes were popular across Austria, Germany, and France in the late 19th century, often produced as desk or cabinet decorations, paperweights, or small study models. The naturalistic approach reflects the 19th-century taste for animalier bronzes inspired by artists such as Pierre-Jules Mêne and Alfred Dubucand. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
