Framed. Jef or Jozef Van Hooste (Sint-Niklaas, 1884–1940) trained at the Sint-Niklaas Academy. During his internment in Harderwijk during the First World War, he discovered his talent for pastel painting. Van Hooste preferred the landscapes of the Waasland region, but he also painted interiors and scenes from the lives of couples in a romantic expressionist style.
