A FRENCH BACCARAT CRYSTAL AND GILT-BRONZE MOUNTED DRESSER SET, LATE 19TH CENTURY - Comprising a pair of candlesticks, a covered round box, and a handled centerpiece bowl, each piece is executed in fine hand-cut crystal mounted with elaborately cast and chased gilt-bronze mounts. The pair of candlesticks each formed with a faceted diamond-cut crystal candle holder raised on gilt-bronze kneeling putti figures, set atop circular molded crystal bases with bronze collars and foot rims. The covered box of circular form, the faceted crystal bowl mounted with openwork gilt-bronze borders of flowering vine and berry motifs, raised on small bun feet. The lid has a pierced lattice of gilt bronze centering a rosette knop. The centerpiece bowl of scalloped petal-form crystal, mounted with gilt-bronze scrolled foliate handles and tripod support ending in ball feet. Each crystal element is acid-etched with the Baccarat circular mark featuring a goblet, decanter, and carafe (as visible in detail). The gilt-bronze mounts are finely cast in Rococo revival taste, retaining a warm original gilding. Baccarat, founded in 1764 in Lorraine, France, was renowned by the 19th century for its high-quality crystal wares mounted in gilt bronze, often retailed in Paris luxury houses. Similar mounted crystal dresser sets and garnitures were exhibited at international expositions from 1867 to 1900, reflecting the fashion for opulent table and vanity accessories in the Belle Époque period. Condition: Crystal: Overall very good condition; minor expected surface wear and light scratches consistent with age and use. No significant chips or cracks observed. Cutting remains crisp and reflective. Bronze mounts: Retain much of the original fire gilding, with areas of soft wear, light rubbing, and traces of patination. Some minor oxidation in recesses.
