A GILT BRONZE LIDDED BOWL, 19TH CEN. - The circular bowl is cast in gilt bronze with repoussé foliate and floral motifs, raised on a spreading pedestal base with pierced floral designs, supported on four scrolled legs terminating in stylized paw feet. The removable domed lid is surmounted by a pointed finial and further adorned with applied blossoms. The side handles formed as stylized birds with elongated necks and scrolling bodies. Richly detailed with traces of original fire gilding, areas of oxidation and patina consistent with age. Decorative gilt bronze vessels of this type, often produced in France and Central Europe in the mid to late 19th century, were used as decorative centerpieces or potpourri holders. The naturalistic motifs and pierced elements reflect the Rococo Revival taste popular during the period. Please make all inquiries before bidding. All lots are sold ”as-is”, refer to our T&C.
