A LARGE OAK CASED WALL BAROMETER, LATE 19TH CENTURY - Of banjo form, the oak veneered case surmounted by a broken swan-neck pediment with brass finial, fitted with multiple instruments including: a hygrometer (”Dry/Damp”), a thermometer with engraved temperature indications (”Freezing” to ”Fever Heat”), a convex mirror, a large central aneroid barometer dial marked with weather indications (”Stormy, Rain, Change, Fair, Very Dry”) and scale from 28–31 inches, and a level dial signed ”Warranted Correct.” The brass bezels enclose silvered dials, with the back featuring panel access to the mercury tube and mechanism. Similar banjo-form oak barometers were produced by English makers such as Dollond, Hicks, and others during the late Victorian period, circa 1880–1900. Please make all inquiries before bidding. Brass bezels and dials are tarnished and showing scattered spotting. Thermometer glass intact. Level dial with some fading to the lettering. The mercury tube appears intact, although it has not been tested for accuracy. Hygrometer dial with some discoloration. Functional state of instruments not guaranteed.
