Bidspirit auction | A PAIR OF FRENCH GILT

A PAIR OF FRENCH GILT AND PATINATED BRONZE VASES, 19TH C. - Each of tall baluster form, the body in dark brown patinated bronze cast in relief with flowering branches and berries in naturalistic detail, surmounted by finely cast gilt-bronze necks with applied floral festoons and pierced rims of scrolling foliate design. Raised on circular gilt-bronze socles with acanthus leaf borders and set upon shaped square plinth bases enriched with panels of neoclassical ornament. Notes: French decorative bronzes of this type reflect the 19th-century taste for neoclassical revival ornament, often intended as garniture for mantelpieces or cabinets. The finely chased gilt mounts contrast elegantly with the naturalistic relief work of the patinated bodies. Please make all inquiries before bidding. All lots are sold ”as-is”, refer to our T&C.
