A EUROPEAN GENRE OIL PAINTING, ”GIVING ALMS”, 19TH CENTURY - Oil on canvas, depicting two finely dressed ladies—one in a white gown with blue ribbon detail, the other in a red and white striped ensemble—bestowing alms to a kneeling monk with staff and hat, set before an architectural archway with a river landscape and distant city beyond. The composition combines stylized figural treatment with a decorative scenic backdrop typical of provincial or folk-influenced European schools of the 19th century. The reverse shows an old wooden stretcher, evidence of age with craquelure throughout, and a small rectangular patch. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
