Item Overview
Description:
JULES MOIGNIEZ (French, 1835–1894).
A FRENCH BRONZE MODEL OF A PHEASANT, 19TH CENTURY.
Naturalistically cast and finely chased, the bird modeled standing on a rocky outcrop among foliage, with finely detailed plumage and textured ground, raised on an integral oval base. Signed in the cast "J. Moigniez". Warm dark brown patina with lighter brown highlights.
Footnote: Jules Moigniez was one of the most celebrated French animaliers of the 19th century, renowned for his dynamic bronzes of birds and game animals, often shown in lively poses with finely worked bases.
His works were widely collected in France, England, and America during his lifetime, and many were sold through his father’s foundry, ensuring consistent quality.
The pheasant was among his signature subjects, reflecting the popularity of game hunting imagery in the decorative arts of the period.

Dimensions: H: 13 3/4 in., (44.9 cm.)
