Item Overview
Description:
Of baluster form with domed cover surmounted by a gilt pinecone finial, richly decorated on a deep cobalt blue ground, each side with an oval painted reserve within an elaborate gilt frame: one depicting a pastoral landscape with trees and a winding river, the reverse with a romantic 18th-century courting scene of a gentleman offering refreshment to a seated lady, signed E. Collot. The vase is applied with gilt-bronze foliate mounts, scrolling pierced handles, and acanthus leaf embellishments, raised on a square gilt-bronze plinth base.
The hand-painted reserves signed E. Collot indicate an accomplished porcelain decorator active in Parisian ateliers of the period.
The ormolu mounts and pedestal are typical of high-quality French decorative objects made for the luxury market and export.
