Item Overview
Description:
Of circular cushion form with hinged lid, the deep amethyst glass body finely hand-enameled with a continuous floral garland of orange, white, and blue blossoms with trailing vines, further enriched with fine gilt lines. The domed lid is painted with a peacock in full display beside a bouquet in vivid polychrome enamel. Mounted with original gilt-bronze mounts, including a hinge and elaborate scroll feet terminating in floral bosses. Interior plain.
Moser, operating from Karlsbad in the late 19th century, was renowned for richly enameled glass with naturalistic decoration, often mounted in gilt bronze. Boxes of this form, particularly with figural or animal decoration such as peacocks, are well documented in late 19th-century Moser production.
