Item Overview
Description:
Maker: Dmitry Osipov for the Chapter of Orders, St. Petersburg, ca. 1916–1917.
Bronze, gilding, and translucent red guilloché enamel. The cross with slightly flared arms is bordered in black enamel and is centered with a circular medallion. The obverse features the crowned cipher of St. Vladimir in red and gold on a black enamel ground; the reverse with the date "22 СЕНТЯБРЯ 1789" (22 September 1789) on a blue enamel ground, commemorating the Battle of Rimnik. The lower arm is marked with the maker’s initials "Д.О." (Dmitry Osipov). Suspended from the original black and red moiré neck ribbon.
