A RARE GILT-BRONZE AND ENAMEL ORDER OF ST. STANISLAUS, 2ND CLASS, WITH SWORDS, IMPERIAL RUSSIA - A finely executed example of the Imperial Russian Order of St. Stanislaus, 2nd Class, in gilt-bronze with translucent red enamel over a guilloché ground. The cross arms are interspaced with Imperial double-headed eagles and crossed swords denoting a military award. The central medallion bearing the crowned cipher ”SS” for St. Stanislaus within a green enamel laurel wreath, reverse with enameled medallion and the maker’s mark ”K. Eduard” (Keibel, St. Petersburg), the official court supplier of Imperial decorations. Originally instituted in Poland in 1765, the Order of St. Stanislaus was incorporated into the Russian Imperial honors system by Emperor Nicholas I in 1831 after the incorporation of the Kingdom of Poland.
