A RUSSIAN GILT-SILVER CHOCOLATE CUP AND SAUCER WITH ENGRAVED PATTERNS, 19TH CEN. - A Russian gilt-silver chocolate cup and saucer, finely engraved with foliate and geometric motifs. The cup is bell-shaped with a slightly everted rim, raised on a circular foot, with a partly twisted handle designed as a branch, and engraved with alternating cartouches of floral sprays and patterned designs. Hallmarks: 'CS' maker's mark, AH assay mark under the date 1855, 84 silver proof and later 875 silver mark, kokoshnik, crossed anchors for St. Petersburg. Russia, St. Petersburg, late 19th century.
