A RUSSIAN GILT-SILVER SALT CELLAR, 19TH CENTURY - Of rounded, bulbous form on a slightly raised foot, the exterior finely engine-turned with diagonal guilloché-style engraving creating a textured woven effect, the interior richly gilt. The form, combining simplicity of shape with refined decorative precision, reflects the late 19th-century Moscow workshop’s mastery of both traditional and modern surface treatments. Hallmarks: maker’s mark “Немиров-Колодкин” (Nemirov-Kolodkin), 84 silver standard, Moscow town mark St. George slaying the dragon, assayer’s mark “А.А.”, 1895 date mark. Weight: 4.1 oz. (approx. 116 g.) The firm of Nemirov-Kolodkin was among the premier Moscow silver workshops of the late Imperial period, renowned for high-quality craftsmanship and elegant refinement in both utilitarian and presentation silver.
