A GERMAN SILVER-MOUNTED GLASS CLARET JUG BY STRUBE AND SON, LATE 19TH CEN. - A silver-mounted glass claret jug, cut crystal with silver spout and angled handle. Bears an engraved monogram 'BI' on the hinged lid. Engraved inscription: 'd. 8 Nov. 1898.' Hallmarks: Strube & Sohn, 800 silver proof, Leipzig. Carl Julius Theodor Strube (originally: Struve). Born in Braunschweig, moved to Leipzig in 1819, active there as a jeweller. The firm is listed in the directories as Strube and Son at least until 1942. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
